Volunteer Opportunities at Echo Glen Children’s Home in Snoqualmie

The following opportunities are available at Echo Glen if you’re interested.  They are especially in need of folks to help with youth during their job fair on Oct. 10 & Oct. 17.  Now they have funny volunteer rules at Echo Glen.  If you want to go in and help once, you don’t need to fill out a volunteer application.  More than once and you do!

•Service Project Socials – Come chat with 3 or 4 youth while helping them with a project that helps others. Adopt-a-Cottage – for small groups that would like to socialize with a ‘cottage’ of kids every other month.

•Monthly Birthday Baking for Tent City 4 – Help the kids bake cupcakes and create cards that are given to Tent City 4 residents for their monthly birthday celebration.

•Art Docent – 2 volunteers go into a class of 10 students once a month from 12:15 PM to 1:24 PM (day of month decided by EG teacher and volunteers). NO artistic talent required – lesson plans and supplies are provided. Be a lead docent or assist.

•Job Skills Fair – Share your knowledge of creating resumes, dress for success, interview skills, how to make a great first impression. Resume Writing & Interviewing Skills – You will be equipped with all resources and knowledge needed to help the youth.

•Empower Women –share things that moms usually teach their daughters… nail, hair or skin care, make-up, and fashions for every body type… anything to boost a young girl’s self-esteem.

•Birthday Cakes – provide a cake once a month or once a year for a child who would not otherwise receive one. (no age minimum)

•Annual Golf Clinic – If you have a slight ability to swing a golf club, please join us. Inspire a child – help them find a new talent or hobby.

Help Youth take the Next Right Step

Write Resumes, Practice Interviewing Skills &/or Take Skills/Interest/Aptitude Test

Wednesdays or Saturdays 3 to 5PM

(times somewhat flexible Thurs & Fri after 3PM and Saturdays)

To equip each youth with their next-right-step upon being released, volunteers are needed to help them create a winning resume and/or to practice their interviewing skills. Everything from resume samples, templates and lists of adjectives, to sample interview questions and suggested responses will be provided by Echo Glen staff. Please do add any of your own expertise though.

Also needed are volunteers to help administer a skills/aptitude/interest test to groups of youth. Timing is flexible.

Volunteer once a week or once a quarter. Must be over 21 and background checks required (except for school district employees).

Shalom,

Terri Stewart
